AWS Adds SEV-SNP to Dedicated Hosts; Cloudflare Opens Stablecoin Payment Gateway

Two major infrastructure moves this week expand confidential computing options on AWS and introduce stablecoin-native monetization for any Cloudflare-protected resource.

AWS Adds SEV-SNP to Dedicated Hosts; Cloudflare Opens Stablecoin Payment Gateway

What happened

Amazon Web Services has extended AMD Secure Encrypted Virtualization-Secure Nested Paging (SEV-SNP) support to EC2 Dedicated Hosts, allowing organizations to run confidential workloads on single-tenant physical hardware with hardware-level memory integrity protections. Customers can now allocate a Dedicated Host with SEV-SNP enabled and spin up compatible instances directly on that host. Separately, Cloudflare has opened a waitlist for its Monetization Gateway, a new service that lets operators charge for any web page, API endpoint, dataset, or Model Context Protocol tool sitting behind Cloudflare's network. Payments settle in stablecoins over the open x402 protocol, requiring no custom payments infrastructure from the operator.

Why it matters for your business

The AWS update is significant for regulated industries — healthcare, finance, and defense contractors — that already rely on Dedicated Hosts for compliance and licensing reasons but need stronger cryptographic assurance that workload memory cannot be inspected, even by the hypervisor. Combining single-tenant hardware with SEV-SNP removes a key gap in confidential computing deployments and may simplify certain audit requirements. The Cloudflare Monetization Gateway lowers the barrier to charging for digital resources dramatically: a developer or data provider can gate an API or dataset behind a paywall without standing up a payments stack, a merchant account, or a billing service. For AI-era use cases — selling access to MCP tools or curated datasets to autonomous agents — stablecoin settlement over an open protocol could prove more practical than card-based billing.

What to watch next

On the AWS side, expect broader instance family support for SEV-SNP on Dedicated Hosts over coming quarters, and watch for enterprises to reference these capabilities in updated cloud security posture requirements. For Cloudflare's gateway, the critical question is adoption of the x402 protocol by wallets, agents, and enterprise procurement systems — stablecoin settlement is elegant in theory but depends on counterparties being willing and able to pay that way. Broader regulatory clarity around stablecoin transactions in the EU and US will also shape how quickly enterprises move beyond the waitlist.
